Can $500M of Marketing Help Motorola Beat Smartphone Fatigue?

It's important to go out with a bang, right? At least, that seems to be Google's thinking as the company prepares to unleash its first-ever smartphone under its Motorola Mobility brand, which Google acquired in May of last year for a total price tag of just around $13 billion.
That almost makes the next figure we're about to report seem like chump change, but here goes: According to a new report by the Wall Street Journal, Google's allegedly preparing to sink $500 million – or more – into the marketing campaign for its upcoming "Moto X" smartphone. If that figure holds true, it'll be the whale in the sea of marketing budgets that Google and its mobile competitors swim in.
